Dr Ing. Stephen Sammut
Deputy Principal Vocational and Professional Education and Training

Dr Ing. Stephen Sammut read for a B.Eng.(Hons) degree in Electrical Engineering from the
University of Malta, graduating in 2000 and an MBA from the Edinburgh Business School. He also
holds a Master of Science in Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics from the University of Malta, a
Master of Science in Engineering from the Malta College of Arts Science and Technology (MCAST)
as well as a graduate teaching certificate in vocational education. Stephen has also completed a
PhD in Microelectronics from the University of Malta where he worked on the development of Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers which are optimised to operate in the poresolution of reinforced concrete structures.

He is warranted as an Electrical Engineer by the state of Malta, and is a senior member of the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Throughout his professional career he has worked
in the fields of microelectronics, electrical power distribution, aviation, project management and
engineering contracting. Currently Stephen is the Director of the Institute of Engineering and
Transport of MCAST. His lecturing activity is mostly in the fields of Electrical Technology,
Chemical Processes, Finite Element Modelling and dissertation supervision both at undergraduate
and masters levels. Dr Sammut conducts research in various fields including semiconductor
manufacturing processes with STMicroelectronics, and the development of particle detectors with
the European Organization for Nuclear Research(CERN). He is also the high level representative of Malta on the European strategic planning group.
