MCAST Hosts Third Sectoral Committee Meeting on Aviation Maintenance, Operations and Logistics Management

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) welcomed industry representatives to its Paola campus on 25 June for a Sectoral Committee meeting focused on Aviation Maintenance, Operations and Logistics Management. The meeting brought together educators, industry professionals, and institutional leaders to discuss workforce development and programme design in a sector undergoing significant transformation.

The meeting was hosted by MCAST’s Institute of Engineering and Transport (IET), specifically the Aviation Department, one of the College’s key specialised areas. The department plays a growing role in preparing Malta’s future workforce, particularly as the aviation industry adapts to rapid changes driven by innovation, technology, and sustainability goals.

Guests were welcomed by Dr Ing. Stephen Sammut, Director of IET, and Deputy Director Roberto Tiscio. In his address, the Principal highlighted the importance of education in supporting this transition. “The aviation sector is evolving, and so must our educational strategies. Continuous learning, work-based learning, and career development are becoming essential. Our aim is to ensure that students are equipped with both the technical knowledge and the adaptability required to lead in this shifting landscape.”

In collaboration with the Women in Aviation Malta (WIAM) the discussion also centred on increased inclusivity within the sector. MCAST reaffirmed its commitment to offering opportunities for all, regardless of gender, nationality, or background.

The meeting supported by the Ministry of Education through the Encounter Series MCAST Meets Industry served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between MCAST and its industry partners. Stakeholders were invited to contribute directly to the design and delivery of courses and work-based learning opportunities, ensuring that programmes remain aligned with sector demands.
