On 27 January 2025, the Principal and CEO of the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), Mr Stephen Vella and the President of the Chamber of Engineers (CoE), Inġ. Malcolm Zammit signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which formalises a strategic collaboration between CoE and MCAST.
This MoU builds on the steadily growing collaboration between CoE and MCAST. Both parties will collaborate to further international higher education and research, encourage and enable technical exchange related to engineering topics, and promote engineering careers. MCAST’s commercial arm, MCAST Gateway to Industry (MG2i), also signed an agreement.
In recent years, CoE and MCAST have engaged in an increasing number of collaborations, such as seminars and STEM outreach initiatives. This MoU will set the right conditions for a growing collaboration focused on engineering careers and the profession between MCAST’s Institute of Engineering and Transport and the CoE, a voluntary professional body dedicated to representing both engineers and the engineering profession in Malta.
The Principal and CEO of MCAST, Mr Stephen Vella, stated, “This agreement underscores MCAST’s acknowledgement of the Chamber of Engineers (COE) as the official representative of the engineering community in Malta. It matters that the COE recognises MCAST as a key institution in Malta that delivers quality engineering degree programmes. This strategic partnership with the Chamber of Engineers will help both parties advance in this important profession. We look forward to giving enhanced opportunities to engineering students, academics and researchers who are actively engaged in engineering fields.”
The President of the Chamber, Inġ. Malcolm Zammit stated: “This MoU with MCAST is important for the Chamber and the engineering community as we continue to secure productive and rewarding collaborations with the engineering education institutions in Malta. One of the Chamber’s fundamental missions, and needs of our country, is to encourage greater enrolment of students into the engineering degree and to show these students the endless opportunities that our profession provides, in industry and beyond.”
The signing occurred in the presence of the Institute of Engineering and Transport Director, Dr Inġ. Stephen Sammut, joined by Deputy Directors Inġ Carolina Sofia and Inġ Anthony Bartolo and MG2i Operations Manager Brian Decelis.
