The Malta Film Commission (MFC) held an informative event at the Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST). The event was held to provide information to College students about the thriving local film industry and explain the details of the ‘Malta Create’, a short film fund aimed to equip the Maltese film industry.
Representatives from the Malta Film Commission briefed students about the scheme which was launched as part of the Mediterrane Film Festival and encouraged them to participate. Chosen candidates will be receiving a 100, 000 euros fund to produce a short 15-minute professional film. Apart from funds to execute their project, the candidates will also be receiving guidance and training from film industry experts.
MCAST Principal and CEO Professor Joachim James Calleja said, “At MCAST we are strong advocates of training, and industry practice. We provide apprenticeships, and work-based learning. This initiative is a very good opportunity for MCAST students following film-related courses to explore the industry and gain practical skills and knowledge, which will help them to successfully launch their future careers within this sector.”
The College’s Institute of Creative Arts (ICA) offers a wide range of courses aimed at helping students work within this film industry. Courses range from Advanced Diplomas up to Bachelor Degrees.
Speaking during the event Malta Film Commissioner Johann Grech said, “We’re fostering talent, championing creativity, and building bridges for our emerging filmmakers to enter the industry.”
Minister for Education Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima and Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo attended the event.
