MCAST’s Well Being Hub together with Kunsill Studenti MCAST (KSM) and Agenzija Zghazagh organised an event which included a series of seminars, entitled ‘Mind Altering Substances’ on campus in Paola. The seminars were held to provide students with the latest information on mind altering substances used by youths, particularly in the light of the new legislation regulating cannabis use in Malta.
In the coming days, the College shall also be launching the ‘Mind Altering Substance Policy’ and related procedures. During the event students were able to gain professional advice, clarify any misconceptions and discuss issues of concern with experienced individuals working within this field.
Throughout the academic year the Student Services Department organises a number of activities for students to raise awareness about this sensitive subject, including testimonials from ex drug users that will be following the Caritas Rehabilitation programme.
Additionally, Sedqa exhibitions on the use of substances are regularly set up with interactive games and activities as part of the outreach events on the subject. One to one sessions are also offered for students who would like to seek personal support on drug use. These activities are held at the different institutes including the Gozo Campus. Furthermore, students can benefit from therapy sessions offered at the Wellbeing Hub.
