Project aim: Increasing trust in local produce and food safety

– Associated partners in Malta: Malta Food Agency, Ministry for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights

1/ Food Trust Ambassadors program
– To transfer science-based information to citizens. Blended training component on local food supply systems, food safety, sustainability, nutrition and quality. A specific focus was given to chemicals and plant protection processes. Food Trust Ambassadors will also be instructed to use online tools for promotion and engagement activities and will be offered materials to disseminate among their communities.

2/ ASK ME – Citizen Forum
– Open and transparent dialogue between citizens, farmers/producers, and public authorities on food safety
– Engagement Campaigns and Dissemination
– Access to the online learning materials
Aim to change the negative food safety attitudes and behaviours of the consumers.

 


Press Release

1/ Face-to-face training
This full-day face-to-face training was delivered to Food Trust Ambassadors at MCAST Paola on 18/11/2022. This training is to equip participants with science-based knowledge to increase trust in local produces and food safety in Malta. The training was delivered by scientists and key authorities on 5 important topics:

1.Overview of Malta produces (fish, vegetables, animal products and seasonality)
2.Methods and systems to reduce pesticide use
3.Antibiotics in animal products
4.Food safety act: Food chain in Malta regulations on safe food
5.Communications on social media.

During these sessions, participants challenged the scientists and authorities on any concerns they had regarding food safety and regulations on safe food.

Basic introduction on plants growing, overview of pests and diseases and control methods used, conducted by Malcolm Borg, D. Director | IAS- Centre for Agriculture, Aquatics & Animal Sciences, MCAST.
