The new memorandum of understanding signed between the Armed Forces of Malta and MCAST ensures that students will gain access to more training opportunities within this sector.

This new five-year agreement will help in the development and training of new students and also personnel working within the AFM. During a press conference addressed by Education Minister Justyne Caruana and Minister for National Security Byron Camilleri a clear framework of action was revealed, outlining how this agreement solidifies the relationship between the two organisation, while providing the necessary tools and training so that students can embark on a successful career.

This agreement between AFM and MCAST will spearhead the creation of novel courses which will help AFM recruits become MQF level accredited. Moreover, the AFM will also offer engineering students with technical and professional training.

On her part Minister for Education Justyne Caruana argued that, “MCAST is continuing its work to provide industry relevant courses, aimed to addresses the lack of technical expertise within particular industries, while ensuring that Malta’s workforce is fully equipped for the country’s needs. This MOU agreement will ensure that new recruits will have new doors opened for employment opportunities.

“This agreement is important in our continued efforts to provide the necessary training to our AFM personnel”, argued Minister for National Security Byron Camilleri. Minister Camilleri elaborated how after improving the armed forces working conditions it is now prime time to provide the necessary training. The Government is dedicated to investing in individuals who choose to follow a career within the disciplined forces in Malta.

Brigadier of the Armed Forces of Malta, Jeffrey Curmi, noted how within the AFM there are a number of jobs that are not related to the nature of military training. It is therefore, imperative that subjects related to these areas are taught in recognised institutes like MCAST. This will also allow the AFM to focus on military aspects and training.

MCAST Deputy Principal Dr Mario Cardona explained how through this MOU agreement MCAST will strengthen its collaboration with the AFM. “Thanks to the Institute of Engineering and Transport we will be offering training in different sectors and providing students with the opportunities to follow their apprenticeship programs with AFM”, said Dr Cardona.
