Final-year students from the BA (Hons) in Creative Media Production were first
entrusted with adapting classical and contemporary Maltese poetry into cinematic
learning tools.
At the heart of this collaboration are MCAST’s final-year BA Creative Media Production
students, who have worked in dedicated teams to co-construct each adaptation
professionally and artistically. Their process began with in-depth research into the
historical, cultural, and literary origins of each poem, followed by structured idea
generation, concept development, and full-scale production. The result is a series of
cinema- and broadcast-standard audiovisual works that balance artistic expression with
educational pedagogy.
Throughout the project, students worked closely with Dr Maris Camilleri from iċ-Ċentru
tal-Ilsien Malti and Uffiċjali Edukattivi Ms Doreen Coleiro and Mr Carlston Grima,
ensuring their research and interpretations remained faithful to the core principles and
original intent of each Maltese poem. Under the guidance of Senior Lecturer Prof. Ian
Attard, production standards were maintained at a professional level, from initial
concept through to final screen-ready outputs designed for pedagogical purposes both
in classrooms and home learning environments.
Students’ projects are now featuring on PBS as part of its daily schedule. Together, these
milestones stand as a powerful testament to MCAST’s 25-year legacy of integrating
vocational excellence, creative innovation, and national educational impact.
