The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) proudly announces that students from the BA (Hons) in Fashion: Design and Making program successfully showcased their graduate collections at Malta Fashion Week 2026. This event took place on 7 July at the entrance of Valletta. This is the third consecutive year that MCAST students have presented their work at one of Malta’s top fashion events.

Malta Fashion Week offers a stage for both established and emerging designers to showcase their collections to industry professionals, media, and the public. The 2026 edition is supported by Visit Malta and Phoenicia.

The collections, developed throughout the academic year under the guidance of program lecturer Ms. Amanda Abela, were led by concepts rooted in personal stories, cultural influences, and current issues. Each student managed every step of the design process independently, which included initial research, concept development, mood boards, fabric sourcing, textile experimentation, pattern drafting, draping, garment construction, and multiple prototype fittings.

Many students created original textile prints, manipulated fabrics, and explored surface embellishment techniques to enhance the unique identity of their collections. Preparing for Malta Fashion Week went beyond making garments. Students also took part in styling, model fittings, and final presentation planning. This experience provided valuable insights into professional industry practices.

The final collections showcased months of dedication, innovation, and craftsmanship. They demonstrated the high standards of the BA (Hons) Fashion program while reinforcing MCAST’s commitment to equipping aspiring designers with the skills and confidence needed to enter the fashion industry.

On Saturday, 11 July, MCAST students were nominated for the Up and Coming Award at Malta Fashion Week 2026. They competed alongside emerging designers from various programs. After a competitive selection process, Matthias Psaila was announced as the Up and Coming Award Winner. He was recognised for the creativity, innovation, and quality shown in his collection.
