The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for the Maltese Language (ĊIM) and the Ministry for Education provide students with unique opportunities to engage with Maltese literature through creative audiovisual productions. The agreement was signed on 19th May, 2026
The MoU establishes a three-year collaboration. MCAST students will develop audiovisual interpretations of Maltese literary works, including poetry, short stories, and excerpts from novels in the secondary school Maltese syllabus.
Through this initiative, students will work in authentic industry-based learning environments, developing skills in research, storytelling, media production, critical thinking, and creative communication. The project will also offer opportunities to collaborate with experts in Maltese language, literature, and education. Students will explore innovative ways to make literary works more reachable and appealing for younger audiences.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, MCAST Principal and CEO Mr Stephen Vella pointed out the importance of partnerships that connect education with culture and real-world experience.
“This cooperation reflects MCAST’s commitment to providing students with meaningful learning opportunities that combine creativity, critical thinking and professional practice. By bringing Maltese literature into the audiovisual medium, students are not only developing technical and creative skills but are also contributing to the promotion of Maltese language and culture in new and engaging ways.”
The audiovisual productions developed through the project will be made available as educational resources for schools and may also be showcased through national platforms, extending their reach to wider audiences. ICA Director Dr Martina Caruana, Deputy Director Ms Claire Flores and senior lecturer Dr Ian Attard were present for this event, representing the institute.
The agreement was signed by Dr Maris Camilleri, CEO of the Centre for the Maltese Language, and Dr Alice Micallef from the Ministry for Education and further strengthens the relationship between MCAST, the Centre for the Maltese Language, and the Ministry for Education.
The collaboration creates additional opportunities for collaboration that support student learning, cultural engagement, and the preservation and promotion of Malta’s linguistic heritage.
