The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) welcomed Her Excellency Somers Farkas, Ambassador of the United States of America to Malta, during an official visit on 18 May focused on education, workforce development, and international collaboration.

During the visit, Ambassador Farkas met with MCAST Principal and CEO Mr Stephen Vella, Deputy Principal for Student Experience Ms Ann Marie Cassar, International Business Development Manager Ms Maxine Micallef, and Deputy Director for Policy Analysis Ms Francesca Attard.

The meeting focused on the evolving role of vocational and applied education in preparing students for a rapidly changing world of work, as well as potential areas of collaboration between MCAST and institutions in the United States. In October 2026, MCAST will welcome its first Fulbright scholar Scott Kupferman Ph.D. to collaborate on the Strengthening and Fostering Elementary Teacher formation project.

Principal Stephen Vella presented an overview of MCAST’s strategic priorities and internationalization efforts as well as the College’s efforts to respond to the changing demands of industry and society.

As part of the visit, Ambassador Farkas toured the MCAST Library, where she was welcomed by Library Director Ms Liza Franco. The visit highlighted the Library’s role as a central learning hub supporting research, student development, and academic life across the College.

MCAST thanked Ambassador Farkas for her visit and reaffirmed its commitment to building international partnerships that create meaningful opportunities for students, educators, and the wider community.
