Malta’s Presidency of the Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers formally came to a close on 14 November 2025, marking the end of a six-month term during which the visual identity created by the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts accompanied the Presidency across official communications, events and materials.
Earlier in the year, a delegation from the Institute travelled to Strasbourg to observe how the design was integrated into the Presidency’s activities and to engage with representatives of the Council of Europe on matters relating to branding and visual communication.
The delegation included Ms Shelley Borg, whose logo was selected from among 16 submissions by B.A. (Hons.) Graphic Design students at MCAST, and Senior Lecturer Mr Darren Duncan, who guided the students throughout the design process. Their visit formed part of the Presidency’s wider engagement efforts and provided an opportunity to follow proceedings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) session and participate in related cultural and institutional events.
During the visit, the delegation attended a Cultural Evening at the Cathédrale Notre Dame de Strasbourg, featuring “A Tribute to Palestrina and Malta’s Sacred Music”, followed by a reception showcasing Maltese cuisine. They also participated in the Żieme Unveiling Ceremony at Place Broglie and witnessed the Prime Minister of Malta’s address to the Parliamentary Assembly at the Palais de l’Europe. The programme included the inauguration of a commemorative stamp recognising the Presidency.
Guided by Ms Anne Péroi, Public Relations Officer at the Council of Europe, the delegation toured key areas of the Organisation and gained insight into its role in protecting human rights and promoting democracy among its 46 member states. A further meeting with Ms Sophie Lobey, Head of the Public Relations and Publications Unit, explored the approach to branding, visual identity and communications used at Council of Europe level, offering valuable context to the work carried out in Malta.
As the Presidency has now drawn to a close, MCAST acknowledges the contribution made by its Institute for the Creative Arts to the visual representation of this international role and notes the educational value of this experience for participating students and staff.
