The Institute of Community Services (ICS) Hair Show: Order or Chaos, brought innovation, artistry and industry dialogue to the MCAST stage on Monday evening.
This showcase spotlighted the creative prowess of Level 4 Hairdressing students, who transformed hair into narrative. Under the direction of Roberta Curmi, as part of the Cultural Expression unit, the show challenged conventional aesthetics while embracing a tapestry of cultural, social, and creative influences. Students responded to the provocative theme Order or Chaos with creations that ranged from intricately sculpted styles to expressive forms echoing rebellion and transformation.
The event also served as a forum for dialogue. A panel featuring ICS alumni, salon owners, creatives, and educational leaders discussed themes including sustainability, entrepreneurship, vocational training, and the future of the hairdressing profession. The discussion raised pressing questions about the evolving nature of the industry and whether its future lies in discipline and control or in reinvention and disruption.
The students were guided by Ms Ann Marie Cassar, Director of ICS, Deputy Directors Ms Christianne Gatt Fenech and Ms Elaine Attard. The event was supported by Ms Stephanie Ann Formosa, Institute Vocational Coordinator, Ms Vicky Ebejer, Hairdressing Technician, and a team of lecturers and Level 3 Hairdressing students, whose work behind the scenes was integral to the event’s success.
The MCAST showcase served as an occasion for reflection and celebration, bridging education and industry, and offering young professionals a stage to define their craft’s future.
The event forms part of the ongoing ‘MCAST Meets the Industry’ Encounter series.
