Name of Organisation
Association of Speech Language Pathologists – ASLP Malta
HEALTH
Description
The ASLP was launched in 1985 and was immediately recognised as a professional association. It is also registered with the Commissioner for Voluntary Organisations (VO / 0301) and in line with the Voluntary Organisations Act (Act XXII of 2007).
It is a recognised professional association of Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in Malta. It is the only professional body, which brings together qualified SLPs in Malta and students studying to qualify in the field of Communication Therapy.
The ASLP provides a forum for members to meet, share knowledge and develop professionally. It is a vehicle through which professional views can be disseminated to other organisations and public institutions. ASLP also creates opportunities to raise public awareness regarding Speech-Language Pathology.
It was set up with four main aims which are still valid today:
Safeguarding the profession
Safeguarding the professional code of ethics
Keeping up with standards and current developments
Creating public awareness
The first committee was made up of almost all the Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in Malta, at that time, referred to as Speech Therapists. Over the years, as the number of qualified SLPs increased, the association has kept growing and developing to meet current challenges.”
