In a concerted effort to enhance inclusivity and respond to the evolving needs of the workforce, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) recently hosted a stakeholder forum titled Empowering Inclusion on 30 April. Organised by the Centre for Learning and Employability as part of the Encounter – MCAST meets industry series, the event formed part of the ongoing cyclical review of the Intro A/B and Level 1 Awards programmes.
Held with the aim of gathering first-hand feedback, the forum welcomed a diverse array of participants including employers, transition coordinators, youth workers, lecturers and Learning Support Educators (LSEs). Discussions centred on the relevance of current course content, the structure of work placements, and the critical skills needed in today’s job market, particularly for learners with disabilities.
The session was led by the Centre’s Director Amanda Cassar and Deputy Director Duncan Vella. A key takeaway from the session was the necessity to better prepare employers to welcome and support students with varying needs as well as the need for longer placements. By strengthening this bridge between education and industry, MCAST aims to create more equitable and inclusive work-based learning opportunities.
This Encounter event as well as other planned for the coming weeks seek to yield valuable insights from stakeholders that will directly inform the enhancement of MCAST’s educational offerings. The Encounter – MCAST meets industry initiatives are supported by the Ministry of Education, Sport, Youth and Innovation.
