On February 2, 2024, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), in collaboration with the Malta Football Association (MFA) held the launch symposium of a pilot research study where 45 students from three different schools engaged in daily physical activity for 45 minutes to battle general inactivity and a lack of basic motor skills. Fun Fit 5 is the brainchild of a group of people coming from different entities, mainly the Malta FA, through the Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation, MCAST, the Centre for Physical Education and Sport within the Education Department, the Department of Health and the Ministry for Environment, Energy and Enterprise. The conference was addressed by Hon. Clifton Grima, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, Prof. James Calleja, MCAST Principal and CEO, Dr Angelo Chetcuti, General Secretary, Malta Football Association and Ms Ann Marie Cassar, Director , MCAST Institute of Community Services. Speeches were also delivered by Mr Gareth Sciberras from the Inħobb il-Futbol Foundation and Mr Marvin Spiteri, Education Officer within the Education Department. A panel discussion made up of Dr. Renzo Kerr-Cumbo, Dr. Melanie Darmanin, Dr. Matthew Muscat Inglott and Mr. Heathcliff Schembri provided an insight into the study to those present.
