Education Minister visits MCAST Teens Camp

The Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST) welcomed Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima on campus in Paola.

During the visit, MCAST officials showcased to the Minister the work the College was doing with MG2I on this year’s ‘MCAST Teens Summer Camp’ programme. Lecturers and students related their experience in exploring new skills and subject areas.

Commencing in July, the ‘MCAST Teens Summer Camp’ runs for 8 weeks. This year, 93 students offered to individuals between 13 and 16 years of age. The summer programme aims to expose participants to various study areas, which will help them make an informed decision when choosing their next educational and career journeys.

Addressing participants, Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima explained, We want youths to benefit from different learning experiences that are fun and immersive. This is an opportunity to explore skills and discover areas beyond their learning during the academic year. MCAST plays an important role in widening opportunities for all, and I am glad that students are making the most of this opportunity during the holidays.”

MCAST Principal and CEO Professor Joachim James Calleja said, “The College is helping young adolescents understand the wide variety of subjects taught at MCAST. We are exposing future students to what the College offers and how they can benefit from our work-based learning and vocational educational programmes to secure a fruitful and successful career in their future career choices”.

During the ‘MCAST Summer Teens Camp’, students are exposed to various activities, including educational projects, sports days and, teamwork.

MCAST Deputy Principal for Business Development and Communications Mr Stephen Vella stated, “We launched this programme aiming to help students experience a variety of disciplines including, robotics, coding, communications, business, engineering, creativity, trades and much more”.

The ‘MCAST Teens Summer Camp’ is supported by MITA and the Local Councils Association.
