Students following hairdressing courses within the Institute of Community Services (ICS) at The Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST), held a hairdressing exhibition titled, ‘Misfits’. The exhibition showcased works carried out by students while following courses at the College.

The exhibition helped in showcasing the cultural and creative expression of students currently following the Advanced Diploma in Hairdressing. Students had the opportunity to experiment with different hairdressing looks, which ultimately help convey a message and a story to the audience.

Students together with their lecturers, worked on this 3-month project in order to execute it from start to finish. Including various tasks, students had to come up with mood boards and refine their ideas to up with the hair-styling look that they presented during the show. This work included research on current hairdressing trends, in-depth creative discussions, and practice.

Institute of Community Services Director Ms Ann Marie Cassar said, “Vocational Education and Training (VET) requires constant collaboration with industry leaders and players, therefore this hairdressing show is a clear example of the culmination of this collaboration, having worked together as an apprentice throughout the course, the students can demonstrate their creativity and achievements.”

Industry partners, salon owners, lecturers, and prospective students attended the show. Three hairdressing workshops which included the participation of students and industry partners were held during the event. These workshops provided students with the chance to ask questions and understand the hairdressing industry which proved to be an exceptional learning opportunity

The Institute of Community Services (ICS) offers hairdressing courses ranging from Level 1 introductory diplomas to Level 4 advanced diplomas. Prospective student applicants are encouraged to apply for courses online via the MCAST website as of the 17th of July 2023.
