Course Description

Emergency ambulance responders (EARs) are trained and skilled Allied Health personnel who play an important role in answering to emergency situations which require health providers as part of a team of primary responders. Hence, this personnel must have a sound knowledge of first aid, management of emergency situations and the medico-legal aspects of such situations amongst other skills. The aim of this programme is to provide the necessary theoretical and practical instruction so that successful candidates can assess and give preliminary assistance, as part of a medical team, in accidents and emergencies. Successful candidates will be expected to be in possession of or attain a driving licence in the C1 category, followed by Blue Lights training and certification.

Any MCAST Level 3 Diploma, whilst also being in possession of SEC/SSCP pass grade in Biology*
IMPortant Note: *Applicants through Internal Progression presenting the above MCAST MQF Level 3 Diplomas, would need to have obtained marks/grades with an overall average of a minimum Grade B.

OR

4 SEC / SSC&P or equivalent with a Pass Grade / Level 3
Compulsory: English Language AND Mathematics AND Biology

Other Important matters to be noted and considered:

Given the nature of the Programme, the number of seats available on this course, are limited. To this effect, the final classification following eligibility achievement will be published as based on chronological order of full and complete applications received (submitted by applicant) AS WELL AS a related classification of scores (highest first) based on all qualifications submitted.

Applicants will be subject to an Occupational Health Screening to establish their suitability for the Placement which is a mandatory part of this programme. Once course would have started, failure to present a successful health screening (as per an established and set Protocol) , will result in not being in a position to start the work placements. This will eventually preclude the student from a successful completion of course. Prior to embarking on Work Placement, student must also provide evidence of a clean police conduct certificate.
