Ms. Maria Pace
Registrar
Ms. Maria Pace is Director Registrar at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Education, a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management, and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership and Management from the University of Malta. Ms. Pace has vast experience in the educational sphere spanning a period of around thirty-five years. These include teaching at primary and post-secondary levels as well as various leadership positions, namely as Head of School at St Nicholas College, Rabat Girls’ Secondary, at St Theresa College, Mriehel Girls’ Secondary, and Principal at St Ignatius College for a period of seven years. She is regularly invited to give lectures on various aspects of educational leadership at the University of Malta and the Institute for Education.

Mr Josef Buttigieg
Deputy Registrar
Mr Josef Buttigieg is the Deputy Registrar responsible for academic affairs within the Office of the Registrar. An educator by profession, Josef started a teaching career at secondary school level once he successfully graduated from the Faculty of Education at the University of Malta, specialising in Accounts and Economics. He was involved in the steering committees of two National Curriculum reviews. Eventually, he started teaching at the Paolino Vassallo Upper Lyceum. When MCAST was set up in 2001, he was appointed Deputy Director of the new Institute of Business and Commerce. Before being assigned the current duties at the Office of the Registrar, he led the institute as Director. Besides education, youth work has always been at his heart, and in fact he furthered his studies in the area of youth studies. Throughout the years, Josef has had a very active involvement in various youth organisations, at local and national levels, including forming part of the Executive of the National Youth Council. He also produced and presented a variety of discussion and magazine radio programmes on both the national broadcaster as well as other radio stations.

Mr James Vella
Deputy Registrar
Mr James Camilleri was appointed Director, Deputy Registrar on 5th November 2025
James began his teaching career in 1990, teaching Maltese and Personal and Social Development (PSD). He later performed the role of guidance teacher in schools and at the Child Safety Services, supporting students’ personal and educational growth. He also served as a part-time lecturer and tutor at the University of Malta.
In 2004 James was appointed Assistant Head of School, and four years later Head of School. In 2011 he was promoted to College Principal, a post he held for eight years. During this period, he led several reforms and projects within San Ġorġ Preca College. His leadership focused on building strong, collaborative teams among Heads of School and other college groups, revitalising a sense of initiative and commitment across the college, and promoting professional dialogue. James also initiated a literacy project in the primary schools of his college.
Following his tenure as College Principal, James joined MCAST, first as Manager of the Integration Unit and for the past four years as Manager for Community and Social Responsibility.
James holds a Master of Education (Educational Leadership) from the University of Gloucestershire, a Bachelor of Education (Honours), a Postgraduate Diploma in School Counselling, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Educational Administration and Management).
He continues to nurture a love of learning in both personal and professional spheres, including learning to play the guitar in his free time. James has been and remains actively involved in a number of social and socio-religious issues.
