9:00 am: International Nurses Day

May 12, 2023

‘Our Nurses. Our Future’ Celebrating International Nurses Day 2023 at MCAST What is the Theme for International Nurses Day 2023? On International Nurses Day 2023, the theme will be 'Our Nurses. Our Future'. When is International Nurses Day 2023? International Nurses Day is held on 12th May every year, which is the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth. What is International Nurses Day? International Nurses Day is a chance to celebrate the vital work of nurses around the globe. At MCAST, on International Nurses Day, the nursing students along with the nursing lecturers will be holding an event during which: From 9am to 12pm • Various health screening and awareness stations. • Discussions with specialised nurses involved in organ donation, blood bank, screening, sexual health, oncology, and emergency. They will be joined on stage by patients’ lived experiences as well. • Third year student’s poster displaying their dissertation. In collaboration with the Paola Local Council, a number of elderly residents who participate in the community center will be attending the event. 1230-1330 Nursing Alumni students research discussion 1330-1430 Discussion: ‘Celebrating diversity in nursing’ Our Nurses. Our Future. sets out what the International Council of Nurses (ICN) wants for nursing in the future in order to address the global health challenges and improve global health for all. We need to learn from the lessons of the pandemic and translate these into actions for the future that ensure nurses are protected, respected and valued. The Our Nurses. Our Future. campaign will shine the light on nurses and on a brighter future, moving nurses from invisible to invaluable in the eyes of policy makers, the public, and all those who make decisions affecting the delivery and financing of health care. As well as learning lessons to support nurses, the campaign will also look at how we must strengthen our health systems to address growing global health demands. It will capture key actions that ICN believes are essential to address both the profession and health systems and which are, of course, mutually beneficial and reinforcing. Together our future depends on every nurse, every voice, to not only be on the front lines of care, but also be on the front lines of change. The ICN, which represents millions of nurses worldwide, said that this theme sets out what the federation wants for nursing in years to come to address global health challenges.
