Established in 2001, the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology is the country’s leading vocational education and training institution. Six Institutes in Malta and the Gozo Campus, MCAST offers over 190 full-time courses and over 300 part-time vocational courses ranging from certificates to Doctoral level (MQF Level 1 to Level 8). Our programmes, spanning arts, engineering, ICT, business, health, agriculture, community services, and maritime — have equipped a generation of Maltese professionals with the skills to thrive in a rapidly evolving global economy.

25 Milestones in 25 Years
From our founding in 2001 to today, MCAST has continuously evolved expanding programmes, campuses, and partnerships to stay at the forefront of vocational education.
2001
MCAST is Founded
October 2001 - Mcast is inaugurated with six Institutes. MCAST is officially established by the Maltese government. Several vocational schools are merged into one national institution
2003-2004
Foundation & Setup
October 2003 – Three new Institutes are integrated into MCAST: the Agribusiness Institute, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering and the Institute of Community Services. Initial programme offerings launched Early development of main campus in PaolaMalta joins the EU; MCAST aligns curricula with European Qualifications Framework, opening doors for student and staff mobility. July 2004 - MCAST receives its Erasmus University Charter.
2008
Paola Campus Expansion
May 2008 - New simulators are installed at the Maritime Institute.Growth in student enrolment Expansion of institutes (Engineering, ICT, Business, Creative Arts) Strengthening links with industry and apprenticeships
2010
Accreditation
January 2010 - MCAST sets up the Quality Assurance Department.
September 2010 - MCAST launches its first degree programmes at MQF Level 6.
December 2010 - MCAST awards its first vocational degrees.
2012
MQF Levels 5 & 6 Programmes
September 2012- A state of the art digital TV studio is opened at the institute of art and design. MCAST launches its first Higher National Diplomas and degree-level programmes, cementing its role in tertiary education. Aligned with European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Increased focus on higher education pathways
2013
Paola Campus Expansion
February 2013 - A new Fibre Optic Training Lab is set up at MCAST.
March 2013 - Paola main campus opened new blocks of Institute of Business and commerce, Institute of applied science, new lecture halls and facilities, underground car park.
2014
Infrastructure & Innovation
September 2014 - MCAST Gozo campus is further extended and consolidated in one location in Ghajnsielem. Xaghra and Xewkija centres merged into one modern campus. New workshops, computer labs, library and leisure areas added.
October 2014 - A Youth Hub is opened on campus in collaboration with Aġenzija Żgħażagħ.
2015
New Vocational Areas & Apprenticeship
October 2015 - Programmes in new vocational areas, such as the Performing Arts, are introduced. The Apprenticeship and Work-Based Learning Department is set up.
2016
Self-Accreditation & Sports Facilities
October 2016 - All full-time programmes running at MCAST are developed internally and self-accredited. The last visit by BTEC Standards Verifiers is held during July 2016, removing dependency on external awarding bodies. New sports facilities, including an artificial football pitch, tennis courts and basketball pitches, are inaugurated.
2017
First Master’s Programmes
October 2017 - MCAST launches its first Master’s degree programmes at MQF Level 7.
2018
Gozo Degree Launch
September 2018 - MCAST Gozo Campus starts offering its first Degree programme.
2019
Major 2019 Milestones
February 2019 - MCAST launches the Master’s in Vocational Education Applied Research 4.0.
April 2019 - MCAST wellbeing hub is opened.
May 2019 - New building for the Institute of Engineering and Technology is inaugurated.
2020
Digital Transformation
Shift towards digital learning and blended education. Increased use of online platforms and emerging technologies. Expansion in ICT, AI-related areas, and creative digital fields.
2021
Major 2021 Milestones
February 2021 - Gozo campus upgraded and promoted as a centre of excellence with improved infrastructure and technology.
June 2021 - MCAST launched its first ever professional doctorate programme, MQF Level 8.
2022
Research & Internationalisation
Stronger focus on research, partnerships, and EU projects. Increased international collaboration and student mobility. Enhancement of postgraduate and professional programmes.
2023
Major 2023 Milestones
October 2023 - New programmes introduced: Higher Diploma in Transportation & Logistics Management, Bachelor in Conservation (Honours), Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Digital Games Development.
November 2023 - Zheng He Traditional Chinese Medicine Education Centre inaugurated at Paola campus.
2024
New ICT Building Use
October 2024 - Students started using the new Institute of ICT building at Paola campus.
2025
Major 2025 Milestones
May 2025 - New youth hub inaugurated at Paola campus, renovated and equipped with modern facilities.
June 2025 - MCAST launched its Institute for the Trades with structured courses from MQF levels 1 & 2.
December 2025 - St Carlo Acutis ICT building officially inaugurated at Paola campus, modern ICT labs, classrooms and AI facilities added.
December 2025 - Library opened to the public.
December 2025 - Institute of Engineering and Transport receives new industrial PLC training kits, boosting hands-on learning infrastructure.
2026
