MCAST researchers carried out a research project and presented a revised training needs analysis (TNA) for the Local Councils in Malta. The research project and its results were presented during a meeting held on campus in Paola for local council executives. Dr Francis Delicata, Dr Marco Montalto, and Dr Shirley Ann Gauci, worked on the research project. They were assisted and supported throughout this research project by Deputy Principal for Research and Innovation Dr Tatjana Chircop, Director for Research and Innovation Dr Bonnici West. The research involved holding individual interviews with the local government representatives and the selection of external stakeholders of local government. Researchers also conducted analyses of the qualitative data collected through these interviews and compiled the results in a report that took the form of a TNA for local councils. The main objective of this TNA exercise was to create a good framework document that identifies the training needs of the people working in the Local Government sector, specifically Local Councils. The training plan presented will improve local public administration, help keep talented people on board, and provide career growth opportunities. Local councils will benefit from better and standardised training opportunities, specialised to their particular needs. MCAST remains committed in participating in such research projects that are essential in advancing society, strengthening the economy and driving innovation within the public sector and the local sector. This project was a collaboration between Council of Europe CEGG, the Local Government Division of Malta, and MCAST.
