Applicants for Level 1 and Level 2 courses at the Institute for the Trades, are to sit for the Pre-Training Proficiency Review (PTPR) with the aim of understanding if the applicant will require additional assistance during the course.
- The PTPR is a formative assessment.
- Applicants will be informed via email if they are to attend the PTPR sessions. Applicants asked to sit for the PTPR sessions are expected to do so on the day indicated through the email communication they will receive towards beginning of September.
- If applicants fail to attend the sessions, their application will not be processed further.
The PTPR sessions will be held as follows:
Dates: Tuesday 15th OR Wednesday 16th September (depending on the date assigned to the course applicant)
Venue: MCAST Paola Main Campus (or MCAST Gozo Campus)
Time: 8.45am
No other dates are planned for applications submitted during the main call for applications (13th July (0800h) till Thursday 14th August (1400h) 2026).
Emails will be sent only to the email address which the applicant indicated when creating the CMIS profile using EID.
- Applicants having an unrated SSQ&P will be required to sit for the PTPR in Maltese (or alternatively Maltese as a Foreign Language), English Language and Mathematics.
- Applicants who do not submit any SSQ&P / SEC results slips or related documents by the admissions set deadline, will be expected to sit for the PTPR sessions.
- PTPR sessions are held in person at the MCAST Main Campus or the Gozo Campus.
- Applicants who sat for the PTPR sessions last year arestill expected to sit for the PTPR sessions this year.
- Applicants in possession of SEC/O-Levels results at grades 6 or 7 (or related rubric on MATSEC result slip) in Maltese, English Language and Mathematics, or an SSQ&P equivalent rating at Level 1 or 2 are exempted from sitting for the PTPR sessions.
- If applicants for a level 2 course are found to require significant support, they will be guided to join a Level 1 course (instead of the level 2 course they applied for).
- Applicants who are asked to sit for PTPR sessions but fail to do so will be considered as no longer interested in being considered for the course they applied for. If they applied for a Level 2 programme, they will be set to start on a Level 1 programme (since they failed to attend the PTPRs). This decision is final.
