Course Description

This programme provides the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills for the future to those learners who wish to start a fulfilling career as a technician in the area of operations and maintenance engineering. Learners will have the opportunity to learn basic scientific and mathematical methods to apply in subjects such as thermodynamics and heat engines. Learners will be exposed to the different materials used in common engineering situations and their properties. This qualification not only provides access to more specialist units but it also broadens and deepens the learners’ experience in preparation for the real world of work. This course includes work-related training and practice.

Entry Requirements

Internal Progression Route…

  • Any MCAST MQF Level 3 Diploma delivered by the Institute of Engineering and Transport, or
  • Any MCAST Level 3 Diploma, whilst being in possession of the compulsory subjects as indicated hereunder

OR

4 subjects at SEC / SSC&P / SSQP, or equivalent, with a Pass Grade / Level 3

Compulsory: One subject from Engineering Technology OR Design and Technology OR Chemistry OR Mathematics OR Physics.

Other notes related to this programme

An Applicant aged 21 years and over, and not in possession of the above Entry Requirements, may wish to apply via the Maturity Clause route.  Applicants under Maturity Clause must still present clear documentation showing that they have a number of achievements in hand together with their School Leaving formal Certificate / document (to confirm their successful completion of compulsory schooling).  Age is not the only eligibility factor in such instances.  Besides documents showing their past achievements, applicants must present a detailed CV using the Europass format, as well as the most recent official JobsPlus Employment History.
