Course Description

This course is aimed at learners who have successfully completed their studies at the Alternative Learning Programme of the Ministry for Education, and are interested in pursuing further vocational studies at MQF Level 3, related to motor vehicle engineering and maintenance. This course focuses on the knowledge and skills required for eventual employment at assistant technician level in the light vehicle servicing sector. The combination of practical experience and theoretical knowledge gained by successfully completing the course, will equip learners with the knowledge and skills with which they will be able to access the labour market, or alternatively, they will be eligible to continue their studies at MQF level 4 at MCAST, by selecting one of the various Advanced Diplomas offered by the College, in their preferred area of study.

This programme is intended for learners who would like to start developing a strong grounding in the field of motor vehicle engineering and maintenance. Through the various aspects of training that this course provides, learners should be able to gain a good understanding of the basic systems found in light vehicles and how to handle tools safely. Learners will also develop the essential skills of the trade, including the carrying out of basic routine checks, the replacement of parts as required in the periodic servicing of vehicles, and the maintenance of appropriate service records. In this programme, learners will also follow studies in key skills subjects, such as English, Maltese, Mathematics, and Information Technology.
