Course Description

This course is intended for learners who wish to pursue a career as technicians in electrical power systems in both the domestic and the industrial sectors. The course includes the requirements set by the Regulator for Energy and Water Services (REWS) for the Electrical Wireman’s Authorisation A and Authorisation B. This ensures a solid technical competence and understanding of the regulations and health and safety requirements governing the electrical installation industry. This course contains modules related to Photovoltaic Systems, Building Services and Electronic Control Systems that give candidates a solid grounding in the technologies involved in the building services industry. Candidates will also receive exposure to Mechanical Workshop practice.

Entry Requirements

Internal Progression Route…

  • Any MCAST MQF Level 3 Diploma,

OR

4 subjects at SEC / SSC&P / SSQP, or equivalent, with a Pass Grade / Level 3

Compulsory: One subject from Engineering Technology OR Design and Technology OR Chemistry OR Mathematics or Physics.

Applicants must present an official document, showing a positive clearance following a Colour Vision Assessment / Test, as approved by REWS as the Regulatory Authority in this area.

Other notes related to this programme

When submitting online application for this course, a scan of the original and official Colour Vision Test result needs to be uploaded together with all other documentation required.

An Applicant aged 21 years and over, and not in possession of the above Entry Requirements, may wish to apply via the Maturity Clause route.  Applicants under Maturity Clause must still present clear documentation showing that they have a number of achievements in hand together with their School Leaving formal Certificate / document (to confirm their successful completion of compulsory schooling).  Age is not the only eligibility factor in such instances.  Besides documents showing their past achievements, applicants must present a detailed CV using the Europass format, as well as the most recent official JobsPlus Employment History.
