Course Description
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Early Years degree prepares learners to work in an Early Years setting with children aged three to five. Throughout the first two years of the course, learners cover different components of the required learning that leads students to become practitioners with further specialisation in more specific areas. Throughout the course learners experience placement within an early years setting to progressively become adept at working with a group of children using the emergent curriculum approach.

Internal Progression Route…
- MCAST Advanced Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development, or
- Advanced Diploma in Health and Social Care, or
- Advanced Diploma in Social Care
OR
2 subjects as A-Level passes and 2 subjects as I-Level passes
Compulsory A-Level or I-Level: Two subjects from Mathematics, English, or Maltese
AND
Compulsory: A pass at SEC/SSCP-Level in the subject that is not presented at A-level or I-level
Other notes related to this programme
Prior to embarking on a Work Placement (successful completion of which is an integral part of the accredited programme of studies, leading to certification), learners need to:
• satisfy the requirements of the Protection of Minors Act (POMA);
• satisfy specific immunisation requirements, by presenting a formal and valid Vaccination Card endorsing a complete vaccination programme;
• present a clean Police Conduct Certificate
• present a First Aid Certificate which will be valid upto at least successful completion of programme of studies; and
• Present a complete valid Paediatric First Aid course
Of particular interest to MCAST ICS Level 4 graduates forming part of the progression route to this Degree Programme: To progress to the third year of this Degree Programme, students must have obtained a pass in Maltese and English SEC level (Grade 5 or better). Alternatively, students can attend the preparatory lectures in Maltese and English proficiency delivered by the Institute throughout the second year of this Degre Programme, obtaining a mark of 50% or higher in the assessments. Only the proficiency tests successfully obtained throughout the second year of this Degree Programme (as explained above) are accepted, in lieu of the SEC levels.
Entry requirements presented in this Prospectus, are intended for academic purposes. Employers will eventually set their own job vacancy requirements which obviously need to be respected by all those applying for that particular vacancy.
An Applicant aged 23 years and over, and not in possession of the above Entry Requirements, may wish to apply via the Maturity Clause route. Applicants under Maturity Clause must still present clear documentation showing that they have a number of achievements in hand together with their School Leaving formal Certificate / document (to confirm their successful completion of compulsory schooling). Age is not the only eligibility factor in such instances. Besides documents showing their past achievements, applicants must present a detailed CV using the Europass format, as well as the most recent official JobsPlus Employment History.
