Course Description

The photographic industry requires young creatives who want to take the plunge into the world of professional image making. The industry requires competitive young professionals who can meet the on-going clients’ demands for fresh and unique ideas for images in a variety of contexts. This course focuses on giving prospective photographers a very near real-life educational experience of what can be experienced in the photographic industries. Learners are exposed to the specialist areas of location photography, editorial photography and studio photography. Towards the end of each academic year the learners develop their own thematic photographic concepts and produce two major photographic projects. The course also includes DSLR and mirrorless photography, studio photography, studio lighting, monochrome darkroom photographic printing, and relevant post-production techniques using Adobe Photoshop.

Entry Requirements

Internal Progression Route…

  • Any MCAST MQF Level 3 Diploma

OR

4 subjects at SEC / SSC&P / SSQP or equivalent, with a Pass Grade / Level 3

Applicants may be asked to sit for an Interview and/or present a Portfolio.

An Applicant aged 21 years and over, and not in possession of the above Entry Requirements, may wish to apply via the Maturity Clause route.  Applicants under Maturity Clause must still present clear documentation showing that they have a number of achievements in hand together with their School Leaving formal Certificate / document (to confirm their successful completion of compulsory schooling).  Age is not the only eligibility factor in such instances.  Besides documents showing their past achievements, applicants must present a detailed CV using the Europass format, as well as the most recent official JobsPlus Employment History.
