Albert

Deputy Director

Albert Agius has worked at MCAST for 15 years, starting as a Clerk within the Institute of Business and Commerce (now IBMC) before moving to the Quality Assurance Department, where he has served for the past 12 years. During these 12 years, Mr Agius has slowly climbed the corporate ladder, gaining invaluable first-hand experiences.

Mr Agius achieved a B.A. (HONS) degree, which he followed up with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education, both conferred by the University of Malta. Mr Agius participated in various QA-specific CPD opportunities offered by the College and the Malta Further and Higher Education Authority (MFHEA), consolidating his maturing interest in education and the assurance of its quality via various dedicated qualifications, such as the CPD Award in Quality Assurance for Further and Higher Education, funded through the ESF Project 1.227 ‘Making Quality Visible’. He is also currently in the process of reading for a Master’s degree.

One of the main roles held by Mr Agius within the QA Department is that of Central Document Controller. This role enables him to work in close contact with various departments and institutions, both within and outside the College, thus providing insight into their core processes and how these fit within the overall Quality Management System of the College. Through this role, Mr Agius has proved himself instrumental in developing and continuously improving MCAST’s Quality Management Systems and signing collaborative agreements with external institutions.

Working within the QA Department, Mr Agius has also facilitated various internal and external QA audits. Some important mentions include two (2) External Quality Assurance Audits conducted by the MFHEA, programme audits by the MFHEA in different institutes, yearly audits by Bureau Veritas, and the five-yearly audits by Transport Malta and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) to the Centre for Maritime Studies (CMS). He also held the role of Accreditation Expert on several ESF-funded projects, which led to the development of MCAST’s homegrown curriculum. Mr Agius has represented the College as an ECVET Expert on the European Network of ECVET Experts, through which he was also involved in drafting the RPL Guidelines at MFHEA. Mr Agius is currently a member of the College’s Equality Consultative Committee.
