Karibu Malta
Brief description of organisation
Karibu Malta is an association established in 2013 and its main aim is to assist and finance missionary work in third-world countries. Such work is usually related to educational support such as funding schools to be able to give basic education. To date, Karibu Malta has built two schools in Kenya. In order to reach our goals, we organise various activities to generate funds around the island. The association also gives the opportunity to its members to travel to the country where Karibu Malta would be funding a project during that specific year. This will give a better understanding of why we are so passionate about what we do and our participants will be able to get a better understanding of the real struggles such people suffer from in these countries.
Type of community work that can be offered to our students
Carrying out your volunteering hours with us will give you the opportunity to be part of another family. Administrative work is not the main aim of looking forward to having you onboard. We
want you to be hands-on, doing not only what we love to do, but also giving you the time and opportunity to think outside the box and come up with sustainable fundraising activities. In general, our annual activities vary from picking oranges which will then be sold by our members in another activity to baking cakes and figolli, hosting football tournaments, and much more. Have you heard of the group closing up a busy street to hold a pasta night for over 300 people? Yeah, that was us! You can be part of this growing team and assist in the planning and actual
implementation of such activities.

Smiling with Jerome Foundation is an NGO which is run on a fully voluntary basis. It was founded on the 6th of October 2017, the day that Jerome died from bone cancer at the age of 20 years.
We work hard to raise funds for ALL cancer patients & their families and ALL children with disabilities / severe conditions & their families.
You will note that I have mentioned “and their families”, as more often than not, many associations do not cater for the needs of the families & carers and as most of us know from personal experience, the caregivers also require a lot of support when a loved one is ill or suffers from a long term disability or condition.
With the funds raised we manage to offer support to ALL the family.
This Foundation organises events throughout the year, free of charge for all the families: parents, any siblings and the patient as well.
Many of our kids in care have life threatening conditions and although not all of them spend long days in hospital, their condition is terminal as there is no cure available. Many kids with cancer get into remission and be cured but kids with disability have to undergo lots of therapies and medications have to be taken everyday till the very end.
The events are held throughout the year and include Educational walks / Nature Trails / Days by the Pool / Boat Trips, Movies / Beauty and Hair Treatments / Parties / HorseRiding (specifically adapted) / Pantos / Concerts / Cooking Sessions / BBQs / Free Meals / Pottery Sessions / Para Gliding / Zip Lining / Abseiling / Games in the Sea / Educational talks / Games for the Kids/ Animal Encounters / Face Painting and Animation and a yearly Fashion Show modelled by these vulnerable children and their siblings.
Having many kids with disability in our care, we also help them in buying their medical equipment which is very expensive. Young kids grow so medical equipment needs to be changed too according to their needs.
In December 2019 we have launched the Chemo Bags of Hope. A First in Malta.
These are bags filled with specialised items for cancer patients which help them get through the long hours of treatment.
These bags cost over €60 each but are given for free to all inpatients, young and old, at Wards 1 and 2, Rainbow Ward, Haematology Ward and Palliative Care at SAMOC (Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre) and patients referred to us by Hospice Malta. We will soon be giving them to cancer patients at Gozo General Hospital too.
As our Foundation doesn’t get any Government Funding we heavily depend on companies, businesses, schools and families to continue giving these precious families tender loving care.
Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare however through this Foundation we are fully committed to keep on giving hope and support and effectively seeking to put a ‘Smile’ on each face that we meet.

Flimkien Ghal Ambjent Ahjar needs volunteers to help them in the following areas:
Social Media
Majjistral Park is the first National Nature Park in Malta. Since opening in 2007 the park is always adapting, changing and growing. This continuous work would not be possible without our committed and passionate volunteers.
As you probably understand, volunteers are a huge asset to the running of a National Park. Our volunteers generally either come for one-off events, or come on a regular basis to assist us. The work would include, but is not exclusive to, removal of invasive species, clean-ups, patrols, reporting of illegalities, taking care of our dogs, maintenance of our protected zones, irrigation, planting, replacement of signage and some educational activities.
As volunteering is an unpaid work experience, the number of hours worked is up to the individual and will be discussed with your co-ordinator. On-site training will be provided and long-term volunteers would be offered a uniform to wear when working with us.
Why volunteer with us?
Volunteering is an amazing experience that anyone can partake in. You may be surprised to learn something new about yourself or meet people that have the same thoughts or ideas as you. It is a chance to give something back selflessly. It may give you the chance to take a break from your professional career or just take a day out in nature.
Volunteering is a chance to network. Meeting like-minded people with similar interests is a great benefit. When you share the same passion for nature, NGOs and environmental protection, this will bring people together in a way that doesn’t feel like work!
You will improve your practical skills, such as maintenance of irrigation systems, using power tools and how to take care of newly planted afforestation areas. You will have the opportunity to learn about Maltese nature and heritage from experienced professionals in the field.
This could be your opportunity to try something new. If you are not shy about some hard work and getting a bit messy in the dirt, this could be your chance to improve and expand your portfolio. Volunteering in il-Majjistral Park is special because the area in which we are located is so serene. It is one of the quietest areas in Malta, with good air quality and an abundance of flora and fauna. We are lucky enough to witness an assortment of breeding and migratory birds, reptiles and an array of wonderful trees and shrubs.
One of our biggest projects is the planting of native trees in selected areas in the park to give future generations a safe, protected forest.

SOS Malta has promoted volunteering from the moment of its inception. The philosophy behind the organization has always been one of volunteerism. The philosophy was initially applied to the organisation’s work linked to overseas development, emergency relief and livelihood programmes.
In more recent years, SOS Malta enhanced the promotion of volunteering even locally. SOS Malta believes that volunteers should be a key element in the implementation to all social programmes. The rich mix of skills which volunteers bring with them enlarges the scope of social programmes, but most importantly enlarges and reinforces the dimension of community support.
SOS Malta also believes that volunteers add diversity to any organization, impact on social isolation, increase efficiency and increase enjoyment for paid staff. Currently, SOS Malta runs a national volunteering project linked to health (VolServ) as well as research projects linked to the volunteering landscape in Europe (Volunteering across Europe). It also coordinates a national award for Volunteering (SOS Malta Award for Volunteering), which SOS Malta intends to make an annual event.
SOS Malta aims to aid people experiencing times of crisis and to empower them by providing support services and opportunities to implement development and change in their country.
