The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), through its Institute of Community Services (ICS), hosted a special edition of the ICS Hair Show titled Silver Linings – A Legacy of Hair Artistry & Innovation on 25th May 2026 at the MCAST Paola Campus Main Hall.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Education, through the Encounter – MCAST meets Industry initiative.

The concept paid tribute to the many students, lecturers, technicians and professionals who contributed to building the strong identity and reputation of hairdressing education at ICS over the past twenty-five years.

Image00017A total of 22 students from the Advanced Diploma in Hairdressing (Level 4, Year 2) showcased original creative works developed through the Cultural Expression unit. As part of the project, students researched cultures from history and around the world to explore how these influences continue to shape contemporary trends. The final showcase combined hairstyling, fashion, make-up and accessories into complete artistic presentations that reflected both technical ability and creative experimentation.

Hairdressing today extends beyond traditional salon practices, incorporating elements of art, design, science, communication, technology, sustainability, media and entrepreneurship.

Image00011Addressing attendees during the event, MCAST Principal and CEO Stephen Vella noted that the showcase reflected how vocational education continues to evolve alongside industry demands. “Hairdressing today is no longer only about style, but also about art, fashion, communication, sustainability, technology and entrepreneurship,” he stated, adding that MCAST remains committed to preparing students for a modern and creative world of work through innovation, self-expression and adaptable skills.
