Brief Description of organisation
The National Literacy Agency, within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, was established by Legal Notice 192/2014 with the remit of carrying out functions related to promoting and ensuring the delivery of the different aspects of the National Literacy Strategy for All in Malta and Gozo. It is to serve as a main driver in the field of literacy. The Agency seeks to promote and sustain lifelong and lifewide, high quality, literacy practices. It strives also to improve literacy outcomes, resulting in inclusive practices, higher educational qualifications, and better job prospects. To do this, the Agency designs and delivers a variety of programmes that promote literacy skills and practices in the community.
Type of community work that can be offered to our students
Read for pleasure, writing and storytelling sessions to babies, toddlers and children up to 16 years.
Distribution of reading books to families (Read at Home programme).
Supporting the administration of the various NLA programmes in the community.
Monitoring of libraries in public areas.
Footballers Read and Write programmes for kids in summer.
