Brief Description of organisation
Cappella Sanctae Catharinae is Malta’s only all-male choir specialising in Renaissance & Baroque polyphony. Founded in 2009, the choir has built a reputation for musical excellence throughout the year’s. The choir’s mission is not only to provide high quality musical performances, but also to put music in its historical and social context. To this end, the choir has performed in some of Malta’s top heritage venues including St John’s Co-Cathedral (Valletta), Fort St Elmo (Valletta), Fort St Angelo (Birgu), the Inquisitor’s Palace (Birgu), the Carmelite Priory (Mdina), Bir Miftuħ Medieval Church (Il-Gudja), and many more. It is the choir’s policy to engage with local communities, and also to support philanthropic causes.
The choir has built up a network of collaborations with some of Malta’s top institutions including Heritage Malta, the Valletta Cultural Agency, Teatru Malta, Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti, the Notarial Archives Foundation, the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation, and many more. The choir has also performed abroad in Rome, in some of the city’s most prestigious churches including the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the Basilica of Santa Croce, and the Basilica of San Clemente.
