MCAST Celebrates Freshers’ 2023

The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST) opened the new academic year, welcoming new and returning students during the vibrant Freshers’ activities on Monday, 9 October.

The impressive Paola Campus is hosting over 160 organisations participating in the MCAST welcome week, where students can meet employers to learn more about career opportunities and connecting to the world of work. MCAST works with over 2,300 industry partners to offer students work-based learning opportunities throughout their studies.

Prime Minister Robert Abela and the Minister for Education, Youth, Research, and Innovation Clifton Grima, visited the various stands and met students on campus. The Principal and CEO Professor Joachim James Calleja, welcomed them at the College. The Leader of the Opposition, Bernard Grech, also visited various stands during the opening of the Freshers’ activities. Dignitaries visiting the activities included the Principal Permanent Secretary, Mr Tony Sultana, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Education, Mr Matthew Vella.

The activities will be spread over five days, with activities happening at the Paola from Monday, 9 to Wednesday, 11 October, the Mosta Campus on 12 October, and the Gozo Campus on 13 October. The aim is to offer students a memorable experience at the start of their academic journey, an important milestone as they move to post-secondary education and make important career decisions.

An indoor area is dedicated to non-government organisations and student organisations, which is part of the College’s Community and Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. CSR at MCAST is a compulsory key skill unit offered in MQF Level 1 – 6 courses throughout the six institutes, offering students valuable learning experiences in the community.

Students are encouraged to make the most of these activities and to make lasting connections by networking and meeting organisation representatives, staff members and students.
