Name of Organisation
Canine Search And Rescue Team – Order of Malta – Maltese Association
HUMANITARIAN
Brief Description of organisation
As a sub-organisation within the Sovereign Military Order of Malta – Maltese Association, our mission as the Canine SAR (Search and Rescue) Team is to train our group of volunteers to provide humanitarian support in cases of disasters. This is done with the training of canines specialised for working in this field, all of which are privately owned by volunteers.
Type of community work that can be offered to our students
Learning about basic rescue and first aid skills will equip students with the knowledge to contribute to the community as a whole for the rest of their lives.
Their presence during canine training sessions will help the rest of the team further their training, as different decoy patients will hone the canine’s skills.
Help with administrative duties involved in fundraising events, funding applications and social media awareness.
The skills of students in the arts and beauty departments will be valuable in creating realistic simulations for our training exercises with other organisations, including doctors and nurses from Mater Dei and members of local law enforcement.
Help with the restoration and conversion of our headquarter space. Work will include: plumbing, electricity and general maintenance, wood work, stone work, painting, paving, landscaping and more.
