MCAST participates in the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards

The Malta College of Arts, Science, and Technology (MCAST) together with the Institute of Engineering and Transport (IET) participated in the Malta Engineering Excellence Awards 2023.

The event organised by the Chamber of Engineers, under the patronage of the President of Malta aimed to provide national recognition to individuals and organisations who have achieved outstanding engineering accomplishments which had a significant impact on engineering in Maltese society.

During the event engineering graduates from MCAST and the University of Malta (UoM) were presented with awards in recognition of their work in engineering. The three best projects in mechanical and electrical engineering were nominated.  Nominated graduates submitted a presentation in front of a judging panel and the best one from each stream was announced at the event and given the award.

MCAST alumna Kim Gatt won the award within the Mechanical Engineering sector while MCAST alumnus Salvin Magro won the award within the Electrical and Electronics Engineering section.

Speaking during the award ceremony MCAST Director at the Institute of Engineering and Transport Ing Stephen Sammut said, “Today we are recognizing the dedication, hard work, and accomplishment of all the students who have received the awards.  To these students, I extend my heartfelt congratulations as their commitment to academic excellence, innovative thinking, and unwavering perseverance have set them apart in a field that demands nothing short of excellence. This celebration carries deep significance for MCAST in recognition of the Institute of Engineering and Transport’s students and faculty by the Chamber of Engineers and the engineering community.”

Currently, around 75 students are following Level 6 Electrical and Mechanical Engineering courses at MCAST’s Institute of Engineering and Transport, potentially leading them to a full Engineering warrant upon graduation.

The need for more female graduates within the Engineering sector was highlighted during the event. Ing. Stephen Sammut explained, “Engineering studies can be followed by both male and female students, it allows prospective students to harness the principles of science, be creative, and create the technology required for society to maintain and better itself.  Research shows that female engineering students perform just as well as male students. Careers and opportunities in Engineering can be found in a wide array of industrial sectors including, transport, health, tourism, construction, aviation, and manufacturing.”

MCAST’s Institute of Engineering and Transport offers a wide array of Engineering courses ranging from level 1 Certificates, level 4 and 5 Diplomas up to Level 6 Bachelor Degrees. This course structure allows diverse prospective students, to build their academic journey and enjoy the chance to obtain an Engineering warrant.
