First Edition of KampuSajf at Paola Campus

August 28, 2023 Communications

The first edition of KampuSajf opened this weekend on Friday, 25 August. Under the artistic direction of Stjanu Debono, the arts festival is supported by APS Bank and promises to be an original and exciting addition to the summer cultural calendar.

Over three nights, the weekend included an eclectic mix of music, theatre and dance. Opening the festival on Friday, Zizza u Maria performed songs by local alternative bands and musicians. The performance attracted a large crowd keen on hearing songs by groups like Plato’s Dream Machine, the Bean Growers and Brikkuni. A space within the Paola Campus was transformed into a performance area, creating a welcoming atmosphere for audiences, including newcomers to the College environment.

Saturday’s ‘Etikett’ performance was a Teatru Malta and Moveo Dance Company collaboration. The performers adopted an unconventional approach with Artificial Intelligence, prompting the narrative for the improvisational theatre experience. The project premiered in 2022, and KampuSajf created another platform to introduce audiences to a thought-provoking concept of how AI-generated suggestions can transform into an unpredictable dance theatre show.

The third night was dedicated to jazz music. The ‘Hinge Project’, by Jes Psaila and Sean Borg, featured four new compositions that will be recorded as an EP during August. KampuSajf allowed Maltese artists to introduce their original work to new audiences.
