MCAST was present at the international conference on industrial engineering
The Institute of Engineering and Transport – MCAST was present at the international conference on industrial engineering (IEEE IECON2019) in Lisbon, Portugal. The following papers based on undergraduate student research were accepted for publication after the peer-review process and published:
“Integrated Position and Force Sensing for Optical Sking using Machine Learning Methods” T. Borg, S. Cardona Mills, J. Scerri, C. Seguna, K. Scicluna.
“A Low-Cost Real-Time Monitoring System for an Industrial Mini-Climatic Chamber” L. Tanti, C. Seguna, J. Scerri, K. Scicluna.
Ing. Jeremy Scerri, Tiziana Borg and Shelley Cardona Mills presented the results achieved with an OPTICAL ARTIFICIAL SKIN. The behavior of this optical artificial skin was characterized by experimental data. This data was consequently used such that and a machine learning model was constructed that was able to estimate the touch position and force accuracy to within 0.5 cm and 1.5 N of force respectively.
Ing. Jeremy Scerri also presented the work on another project related to the cost reduction of a Mini-Climatic Chamber that had a smaller footprint and also wireless connectivity added to enhance its industrial attractiveness.
